Canstruction 2009, held in February, was my first experience with this amazing charity event.  Although I didn't actually build a structure, I supported the committee with the organiatzion and promotion of the event.  It was utterly incredible!  Well over 100 people were bustling at Fiesta Mall just after Build Night commenced at 9 p.m.  Ten structures were built, including favorite characters like Wall-E, Ironman and The Hungry Hippo.  A treasure chest filled with gold appeared as well as a bulldozer, a giant Wii and a LEGO man. I am looking forward to seeing what creative characters and structures appear at Canstruction 2010!  The Call for Entries is now available, and teams are already beginning to brainstorm winning ideas!  Build night is scheduled to begin Friday, February 19 and go until Saturday, February 20.  Check out the 2009 local winners.  Team up with other companies in the A/E/C industry, and don't forget college and high school students who can help out.  All of the canned food at the end of the 12-hour build competition and week-long exhibition will be donated to St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance.  Nearly 50,000 meals were provided earlier this year making Canstruction St. Mary's largest single-event donation. If you have any questions about getting involved, please e-mail Amy Marr, Janine Pelekoudas or myself.  Also check out the new website at www.phoenixcanstruction.org. |
